چکیده

The kinetics of phenol oxidation with chlorine dioxide in different solvents (2 methylpropan 1 ol, ethanol, 1,4 dioxane, acetone, acetonitrile, ethyl acetate, dichloromethane, heptane, tetrachloromethane, water) was studied by spectrophotometry. In all solvents indicated, the reaction rate is described by an equation of the second order w = k[PhОН]•[ClO2]. The rate constants were measured (at 10—60 °С), and the activation parameters of oxidation were determined. The reaction rate constant depends on the solvent nature. The oxidation products are a mixture of p benzoquinone, 2 chloro p benzoquinone, and diphenoquinone.

SOLUMIUM DENTAL: the hyper-pure chlorine dioxide solution and its applications in dentistry I

This series of papers consisting of three communications describes the properties and applications of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) with a special emphasis on its hyper-pure aqueous solution available commercially in Hungary under the trade name SOLUMIUM DENTAL since the end of 2008. This first part of the series discusses the history of chlorine dioxide as a disinfectant, its properties and its fiel...

Chlorine Dioxide Treatment of Sisal Fibre: Surface Lignin and Its Influences on Fibre Surface Characteristics and Interfacial Behaviour of Sisal Fibre/phenolic Resin Composites

This paper describes an investigation of the influences of chlorine dioxide treatment on fibre surface lignin. The fibre surface characteristics and the interfacial behaviour of the sisal fibre/phenolic resin composites were also studied by SEM, AFM, and XPS. The results show that the surface of the untreated fibre contains a large amount of lignin with granular structure and non-granular struc...

Lethal and sublethal effects of chlorine, phenol, and chlorine-phenol mixtures on the mud crab, Panopeus herbstii.

The mud crab, Panopeus herbstii, was acutely exposed (96-hr) to chlorine-produced oxidants (CPO), phenol, and a CPO-phenolic mixture (1:1) to determine lethal and sublethal effects. The 96-hr (LC50) values were determined for each individual compound and mixture. Additionally, whole-animal respiration rates were measured following acute exposure to sublethal concentrations of each compound or m...

The reaction of chloroperoxidase with chlorite and chlorine dioxide.

Chloroperoxidase catalyzes the dismutation of chlorite-forming chloride, chlorine dioxide, chlorate, and oxygen as products. The yields of chlorine dioxide are variable because chloroperoxidase also catalyzes the decomposition of this compound and, in addition, moderate concentrations of chlorine dioxide inactivate the enzyme. Chloride, chlorate, and oxygen are the products of the decomposition...

Kinetics of Photoresponse of the Chlorine Dioxide-Iodine-Malonic Acid Reaction

We studied the photoresponse of the chlorine dioxide-iodine-malonic acid (CDIMA) reaction. In a continuously fed stirred tank reactor, the photosensitivity increases with decreasing residence time and increasing concentration of chlorine dioxide. Under certain conditions, concentrations change in a sigmoidal fashion in response to a jump in the intensity of illumination. We propose a new mechan...
